Welcome to the Skull Session.

Spring game on film?

Spring game on film.

Have a good Tuesday.

LOOK OUT FOR THE QUEEN. You've heard the phrase, "You come at the King, you best not miss," but have you heard the phrase, "You come at the King, look out for the Queen"?

I assume not.

I made it up.

Why?

Because Christina Day roasted Clay Travis into oblivion on Monday.

For some reason, Travis took a shot at Ryan Day over the weekend, calling the Ohio State head coach untrustworthy because Travis believes Day colors his beard black.

"If you have a beard, and you dye your beard, you are not trustworthy. The whole purpose of having a beard is to embrace your rugged masculinity, and if you are dying your beard, you are defeating the whole purpose. I think this is why people didn't trust Ryan Day," said Travis, a noted Tennessee fan who's probably still in his feels over the Buckeyes demolishing his beloved Volunteers last December. "I think Ryan Day's approval ratings would go up 1 billion percent. Congratulations on the national title, but if you really want to be beloved, don't dye your beard."

Christina Day's response?

You come at the King, look out for the Queen!

OHIO STATE'S NATTY GEAR HAUL. Ohio State's 2024 national title team received three rings at the spring game on Saturday: one from Ohio State for winning the national championship, one from the College Football Playoff for winning the national championship and one from the College Football for beating Oregon in the Rose Bowl and Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

In addition to those be-a-utiful rings, Ohio State's players received a care package of mementos following the greatest run in college football history. Carson Hinzman showed them off in a four-part TikTok series on Sunday.

Here's a rundown of all Hinzman showed off in his videos:

  • A College Football Playoff coin, with one side featuring the 2025 CFP logo and the other side featuring Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta
  • A College Football Playoff national championship game ticket
  • A College Football Playoff football featuring the dates and scores from Ohio State's CFP wins over Tennessee in the first round, Oregon in the Rose Bowl, Texas in the Cotton Bowl and Notre Dame in the national championship game
  • A miniature College Football Playoff trophy (which Hinzman said was "way heavier than you think," similar to the actual CFP trophy
  • A College Football Playoff-themed pair of Nike Air Max shoes

If Ohio State sold these boxes to fans, how much would you pay for it?

"BRUH..." Nico Iamaleava's departure from Tennessee shows how much of a mess NIL and the transfer portal have become in college football. So, too, does Omari Abor's departure from Ohio State – albeit for far different reasons.

Following the 2023 season, Abor transferred from Ohio State to SMU. I have to assume he made the move because the Mustangs incentivized him with an NIL package and a promise for more playing time. I don't have to assume that Abor regrets his decision to leave Columbus for Dallas, given his latest TikTok post.

Abor appeared in two games for Ohio State in 2023 after missing his entire freshman season with a torn ACL. He appeared in two games for SMU in 2024, recording two tackles. How Abor's post impacts his situation at SMU will be... interesting... to see, but I hope it all works out in his favor.

TOP FIVE, TOP FIVE, TOP FIVE. The narrative started last season: If Jeremiah Smith were eligible for the 2025 NFL draft, he would be the No. 1 overall pick. According to a report from ESPN's Jake Trotter, current NFL executives and scouts have pumped the brakes just a little on that narrative – but it's not all that far off:

"The fact you're that big, move that fluidly, then have the body control to adjust your body to make these ridiculous catches -- it's just, check, check, check," said an NFC personnel executive.

Two wide receiver coaches added that Smith would be their top-rated receiver -- ahead of Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter.

"Just because of his upside -- it's through the roof," said one of those assistants, who also views Smith as a superior pro prospect to any of the record seven receivers taken in last year's first round, including Pro Bowl rookies Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. "He just changes the game for defenses. You can't just leave him on an island. When you have a guy like that, it just changes everything. ... I haven't seen any flaws in his game."

Well, there is at least one executive who would make Smith the No. 1 overall pick...

One general manager even claimed that, were he available for this draft, Smith would go No. 1. No wide receiver has been selected No. 1 since Keyshawn Johnson in 1996. The same GM said that former Oklahoma running back and 2012 league MVP Adrian Peterson was the only other true freshman he can recall being this ready for the NFL.

"In this particular draft, there's a lot of good players, a lot of depth, but if you think about just the explosive, dominant playmakers, [Smith] would stand out," said an AFC scout. "That's what jumps off the film when you watch him. You place him in this draft and you're like, 'Well, I don't really see anyone on that level.'"

But again, most have pumped the brakes just a little...

"We'll see how Jeremiah's story goes," an AFC scout said. "But everyone [in the league] is talking about him. You hear all the buzz: 'Who is this dude? How can we get this guy on our team?' ... That's the track he's on right now."

Smith is good at football, plain and simple. He had 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns as a freshman. An Iron Buckeye during winter workouts (and, book it, a future Iron Buckeye during summer workouts), he'll be better, faster, stronger and even harder to stop as a sophomore.

Good luck covering him, defensive backs.

SONG OF THE DAY. "Whitehouse Road" - Tyler Childers.

CUT TO THE CHASE. Paige Bueckers is No. 1 pick in WNBA draft, going to the Dallas Wings... Elephants at San Diego safari park huddle to protect calves during earthquake... "A Minecraft Movie" is already the highest grossing Hollywood release of 2025... Eastern Michigan tabs Raiders' Maxx Crosby as assistant GM... Brian Tyree Henry has been doing the work.
