Well, we did it, folks.

Buckeye football is officially back, as players check into Camp Meyer 2015 tonight. May Warren G. Harding have mercy on their souls, because Mickey Marotti won't.

Special shoutout too to all the Buckeyes graduating today. Hope y'all got jobs lined up because Sally Mae has no mercy either.

11W WEEK IN REVIEW. Here is some stuff written this week by people more talented than myself:

R.I.P. ZACH FARMER. The former Ohio State pitcher may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

From Derrick Webb of ChilicotheGazette.com:

PIKETON – “Oh death, where is thy sting? Oh grave, where is thy victory?”

Bud Brabson, through a hoarse voice and teary eyes, summed up the life and death of the late Zach Farmer perfectly — quoting the Bible’s 1 Corinthians 15:55 — Saturday afternoon at Piketon High School.

The eulogy, delivered in front of around 1,000 people, included touching speeches from Brabson — who officiated — Farmer’s father-in-law, Bill Mays; Farmer’s father, Larry; Ohio State baseball coach Greg Beals and Piketon baseball coach Gene Bumgardner.

I don't even have kids, and it's heart-rending to think about being a parent and losing a child — especially to something as cruel and senseless as Leukemia. I am glad to see this young man got the funeral he deserved, and I have massive respect to everyone who showed up to celebrate that young man's life.

BOLD STRATEGY, HOKIE GUY. Before y'all get fired up about this... just remember Ohio State had a special season last year after suffering an early-season loss.

From George Schroder of USAToday.com:

"It's not 'could be' [a special season]," he says. "It's 'definitely.' "

Here's why, even if [Senior DE Dadi] Nicolas' confidence seems strong, he has reason for it. The Hokies, who open the season against No. 1 Ohio State on Labor Day, appear to have the potential for another in a long line of dominant defenses.

Eight starters return, but that doesn't tell the entire story. Much of the preseason attention has focused on all-everything cornerback Kendall Fuller; the secondary is expected to be very good. But it starts, Nicolas will tell you, up front.

Defensive tackle Luther Maddy was more Ohio State-centric with his comments:

And of the rematch with Ohio State, he adds: "We brought it to 'em last year. We want to bring it to 'em again this year. We've heard they've been talking a little trash, but we've got to stay low-key. We like being underdogs. We'll come out focused and ready to play."

Here's a refresher course on the trash-talk Maddy is referencing:

Don't know how this would fly with Urban, but I'd be cool with skipping camp and playing this game tomorrow night. Please RT if you agree with me.

OH, I LIKE DAT. This Ohio State court redesign maybe too loud, but dammit, I'll green light anything that involves Ohio's state flag, which is objectively the best flag in the world. (Second place: Marion's MSPaint flag.)
