Remember Jacob Kasper?

Of course you don't. So here's a little refresher: Kasper is the Duke heavyweight who called out Ohio State's Kyle Snyder before the two met in the NCAA semifinals in March.

Prior to the match, Kasper told reporters that he wanted to “punch [Snyder] in the mouth and see what he’s got.”

Kasper certainly saw what Snyder had as the defending NCAA and Olympic champion rolled the Blue Devil, 19–6, to advance to the championship match.

Snyder, who topped No. 4 Kasper with a major decision, despite wrestling with a rib injury, got the last word when interviewed following the match.

Lesson learned, right? Not quite.

In an interview Wednesday with the Mansfield News Journal, Kasper, a Lexington, Ohio native, had much, much more to say about Snyder.

On the punch quote:

"If I was going to beat him, I wanted him to be ready, and throw everything he had at me, because I didn't want people making the excuse he wasn't ready," Kasper said. "I'm glad he knew about it. I think it's funny he didn't have a quote for (TV) until after the match. That shows he was second-guessing himself. That's something I'm going to thrive on going into next year."

Got it. Kyle Snyder was second-guessing himself because the mild mannered star didn't reciprocate the pre-match trash talk.

But wait, there's more! Kasper on his Ohio-ness:

"It's funny, I wasn't recruited (by big schools) out of my own state; he's wrestling for the premier school in that state. Something I'll never forget, I was warming up on the mat and Ohio State fans started chanting 'OH-IO.' I looked at my assistant coach and laughed. Those people didn't even know I'm more from Ohio than that kid could ever be."

The 2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships will take place in Cleveland next March.
