Last night the women’s hockey Buckeyes came up empty in their series opener against Minnesota State and red-hot goaltender Abigail Levy despite dominating the game. They were not pleased with the results. On Sunday they cranked up the pressure on Levy even further. This time they skated away with the win.

Scoring Period 1 2 3 Final
No. 6 Ohio State 2 0 0 2
Minnesota State 0 0 0 0

No. 6 Ohio State bombarded the Maverick netminder with 22 shots in the first period. The Bucks struck twice. Tatum Skaggs cashed in on the team’s second power play of the day. The score brought Skaggs’ team-leading goal total to 11. Sam Bouley banged home another Buckeye goal before the break.

Buckeye Goal Scorers (Assists) Pd Time
PP - Tatum Skaggs (Emma Maltais, Jacyn Reeves) 1 7:43
Samantha Bouley (Lauren Boyle, Erin Langermeier) 1 14:23

The pair of lamp-lighters proved more than enough support for Andrea Braendli. The freshman goalie had the Buckeye net on total lockdown. She turned aside every one of MSU’s 27 shots. This is Braendli’s second shutout of the season. She is 9-6-0 in 15 starts with a 1.74 GAA and .940 save percentage.

With today’s victory, the Buckeyes win their season series against the Mavs, 3-1-0-0. OSU is now 12-6-0 overall and 8-4-0-0 in the WCHA. The Scarlet and Gray have a bye next week. They will skate one final series before their winter break, hosting Mercyhurst (7-6-2, 6-2-0 CHA) for a set of games on Dec. 15-16.

  • Ohio State outshot Minnesota State, 40-27. Jacyn Reeves (9) paced all Buckeye shooters.
  • The Bucks were 1-for-3 on the power play and killed all three Maverick advantages.
