For the second straight week goaltender Andrea Braendli played a key role in the Buckeyes’ success. And, for a second straight week, the conference recognizes her efforts. She is your new WCHA Goalie of the Week, powered by GoodWood Hockey.

The freshman netminder was dynamite in Minnesota last week as she backstopped the Bucks to a series split with the third-ranked Gophers. Braendli turned aside a career-high 44 shots in Friday’s loss. She stopped another 40 in Saturday’s comeback win.

Throughout the series, she kept the score within reach for the Buckeyes despite a lopsided shot total and an unhealthy number of breakaways for Minnesota’s elite scorers. The Gophers entered the series scoring an average of 4+ goals per game. Braendli held them to four total goals against in the series.

The Zurich, Switzerland native is now 3-2-0 in her young collegiate career. She owns a 1.79 GAA and .950 save percentage. Those stats become even more impressive when considering only conference games. Braendli is the WCHA’s top performer with a minuscule 1.24 GAA and ridonkulous .965 save percentage.

Sophomore Emma Maltais (a goal and an assist) and redshirt junior Jincy Dunne (two assists, four blocks) earned honorable mentions for WCHA forward and defender of the week, respectively.

No. 4 Ohio State is back in action this week as the Buckeyes travel to St. Lawrence for another big battle. The Saints knocked off No. 1 Clarkson last week. They enter the latest national polls at No. 10. Games are scheduled for Friday at 6pm ET and Saturday at 3pm ET.

Rankings Watch: Women

Clarkson drops to No. 2 after its loss to St. Lawrence. Wisconsin inherits the No. 1 ranking. Minnesota, Ohio State, Minnesota-Duluth, Boston College, and Cornell hold steady this week at No. 3-7. New No. 8 Northeastern swaps places with No. 9 Colgate. With the upset of Clarkson, St. Lawrence claims No. 10 from Maine.

Rankings Watch: Men

After suffering its first loss of the season, Ohio State falls to No. 4 in both polls. A Big Ten team still holds the top spot. Notre Dame is your new No. 1, followed by St. Cloud and Duluth.

Then it’s the Buckeyes in fourth. Minnesota continues to climb, coming in at No. 5. Three more B1G teams rank among the nation’s 14 best squads, No. 9/10 Penn State, No. 12 Michigan, and No. 13/14 Wisconsin.

The Bucks’ upcoming opponent, Bowling Green, improved its poll position by a couple spots. The Falcons are up to No. 15. That series is a home-and-home affair. OSU hosts first. The series moves to BGSU on Saturday. Both games are slated for 7pm ET starts.
