Another Ohio State win, another Three Stars of the Game.

This week, the Eleven Warriors staff selected Ohio State defensive end Caden Curry, tight end Max Klare and running back Bo Jackson as the Buckeyes' top performers in the team's 42-9 win over Rutgers.

First Star: Caden Curry

You could make the argument for Klare here, but consider this: Curry should have been awarded a touchdown when he stripped Rutgers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis and recovered the fumble near the goal line. Because the referees — we think — incorrectly ruled Curry down at the 1-yard line, Klare ended up being the one to score on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Julian Sayin.

Curry’s do-it-all effort headlined Ohio State’s defensive performance. He finished with a team-high six tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

This season, Curry has been stuffing the stat sheet. He now has 49 tackles and leads the Buckeyes in both tackles for loss (13.5) and sacks (nine). He’s also added a pass breakup, another forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and a punt block.

Second Star: Max Klare

As mentioned above, Klare hauled in the 11-yard touchdown that Curry probably deserved. But that was only part of his impact on Sunday, as the tight end led all Ohio State pass catchers with seven receptions (on eight targets) for 105 yards and a score.

With Carnell Tate, Jeremiah Smith and Quincy Porter sidelined by injuries, Klare’s performance wasn’t just welcome — it was needed. His 100-yard outing marked just the sixth by an Ohio State tight end since 1960 and the first since Jeff Heuerman’s 116-yard day against Purdue in 2013.

Since Tate went down before the Purdue game, Klare has stepped up in a major way. He’s tallied 17 catches for 190 yards over that span — nearly six receptions for 63 yards per game — plus his touchdown against Rutgers. Through 11 appearances this season, Klare has 38 catches for 400 yards and two touchdowns.

Third Star: Bo Jackson

Bo knows 100-yard games.

Jackson has hit the century mark five times this season (Grambling State, Ohio, Penn State, UCLA and Rutgers) and three times in the last four contests. On Saturday, the freshman posted a season-high 19 carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns.

Jackson powered an Ohio State rushing attack that rolled up 254 yards on one of the worst run defenses in the FBS. Behind him, Isaiah West added eight carries for 48 yards, James Peoples broke loose for a 49-yard touchdown as part of a three-carry, 55-yard performance, and backup quarterback Lincoln Kienholz chipped in three carries for 37 yards.

As the season continues, we’ll track the stars (or points) each Ohio State player receives in 2025. Here’s how we’ll do it: Each time a Buckeye earns the First Star of the Game, that Buckeye adds three points to their season total. Then, the Second Star and Third Star each add two points and one point to their totals.
