Former Ohio State offensive lineman Bob Maggs has died at the age of 61.
A two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection as the Buckeyes’ starting center in 1985 and 1986, Maggs died unexpectedly last Thursday, according to his obituary.
Maggs is the father of Mason Maggs, a current walk-on quarterback for the Buckeyes.
A Parade All-American from Youngstown’s Cardinal Mooney High School, Maggs helped lead the Buckeyes to a 9-3 season in 1985 and a 10-3 season in 1986.
After his football career, Maggs worked in sales for Mueller Roofing Distributors. Per his obituary, Maggs was known by his loved ones as the “Gentle Giant” – for his kind heart, his warm, happy smile, and his fierce love for his family.
Maggs’ death is one of two tragic losses for the Ohio State football program over the past week as another great Buckeye center, Nick Mangold, died Saturday at 41 years old due to complications from kidney disease.
