Julian Sayin is racking up the awards for his exemplary performance at Wisconsin.
The Ohio State quarterback was named Tuesday as the best freshman in college football for Week 8, earning the Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Week Award. Sayin received the award after completing 36 of his 42 passing attempts for 393 yards and four touchdowns in the Buckeyes’ 34-0 win at Wisconsin.

Sayin, who’s eligible for freshman awards because he’s a redshirt freshman who played in just four games as a true freshman in 2024, earned the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards on Monday. He was also named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 list for the third time this season – an honor he also received after the Texas and Minnesota games – as one of the nation’s top eight quarterbacks of the week.
Having now completed 80% of his passing attempts on the season for 1,872 yards and 19 touchdowns with three interceptions in seven games, Sayin has positioned himself as one of the frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy in his first year as Ohio State’s starting quarterback. He currently has the third-best odds to win the award behind Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza and Alabama’s Ty Simpson on FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook.
