With a small bit of rest under his belt, it's back to full football preparations for Ryan Day.

On Monday, he took to the airwaves for his weekly appearance on 97.1 the Fan's Buckeye Roundtable show to break down Ohio State's pending matchup with Washington and objectives for the off week that the Buckeyes just enjoyed.

Day has an eye out for the Huskies' key weapons, while the week away also gave him some time to check out high school football in the state and watch his son, RJ, play.

  • On players who are assigned to the practice squads at this time of year: "They understand what the task is, and if you don't like your role, then change that. ... I really have been impressed so far with the professionalism of the scout teams."
  • On Washington running back Jonah Coleman: "He's a really good back. This is somebody who runs really physical, runs really hard, has really good vision. Can catch the ball out of the backfield. ... He's a really talented player."
  • Day shared a story that he only realized last week that he watched Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. while scouting former Ohio State commit, now Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola. He praised Williams' abilities. "He's a tremendous talent and it's going to be a good challenge for our team."
  • On Washington's defense under defensive coordinator Ryan Walters: "They're playing hard. And just like any team that he's coached, and certainly defense that he's been around, they play hard, they play physical, they run to the ball."
  • Ohio State made sure to self-scout for any tendencies during its off week. "Only three games, and all three games are fairly different, nonconference opponents. ... (But) you put one play on film, they're going to be all over it. ... You put any weakness on film, they're gonna sniff that out."
  • On Ohio State's schedule this week: "We'll have a normal week here, we'll have our typical Thursday, then we'll get on a plane and head West. ... We'll be on Pacific time when we're out there. We're trying to do it the same way we did the playoff games ... same mentality."
  • Day got a chance to get out in Ohio and see some of the "great programs and players" in the state high-school-wise. Then he got to see RJ Day take the field. "I was able to fly down to Kentucky to watch my son play. ... Tried to enjoy it the best we can and it was great to see him play well and get a win."
