Goodbye, UConn. Hello, Grambling State.

According to an Ohio State football spokesperson, Ohio State and UConn have mutually agreed to cancel their non-conference game during the 2025 college football season. Rather than welcome the Huskies to Columbus on Oct. 18, the Buckeyes will host Grambling State at the Horseshoe on Sept. 6.

With the schedule now updated, Ohio State's 2025 non-conference slate features Texas (Aug. 30), Grambling State and Ohio (Sept. 13). The program's Big Ten opponents include Minnesota, Penn State, Rutgers and UCLA at home and Illinois, Purdue, Washington, Wisconsin and Michigan on the road.

Ohio State and Grambling State have never faced off in football. The Tigers are members of the Football Championship Subdivision and compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Since the program's inception in 1928, Grambling State has won 15 Black college national championships – tied for the second most in HBCU history – and 27 conference championships, including one in the Midwest Conference and 26 in the SWAC.
