Corey Dennis won’t be staying at Ohio State after all.

When Ohio State hired Bill O’Brien as its new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach last month, it said that Dennis was expected to “transition into a still-to-be-determined role with the program.” Instead, the former Ohio State quarterbacks coach has joined Utah’s staff as an analyst.

Cleveland.com’s Nathan Baird reported that Dennis will be an offensive analyst for the Utes, citing a Utah spokesperson. Dennis is listed as a player personnel analyst in Utah’s staff directory.

Dennis heads to Utah after nine years with the Buckeyes. Dennis, who is married to Urban Meyer’s daughter Nicki, started his coaching career as an Ohio State intern in 2015 and worked his way up to become a graduate assistant in 2016-17 and a senior quality control coach in 2018-19 before his promotion to the full-time staff in 2020. Dennis served as Ohio State’s quarterbacks coach for the past four seasons, but was replaced with the hiring of O’Brien.

Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham served as Meyer’s defensive coordinator at Utah in 2003 and 2004 before becoming the Utes’ head coach in 2005.

Ohio State still faces the possibility of needing to hire another new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach if O’Brien ends up becoming the head coach at Boston College. But it now knows its previous quarterbacks coach won’t be a part of the staff in 2024.

Dennis is the first coach from Ohio State’s 2023 coaching staff who was not retained by the Buckeyes to land a new job for 2024. Former safeties coach Perry Eliano and special teams coordinator Parker Fleming have not yet landed new jobs.
