North Carolina has landed an Ohio State transfer for the second day in a row.

Just one day after former Ohio State cornerback Lejond Cavazos announced his commitment to North Carolina, former OSU defensive lineman Jacolbe Cowan announced Tuesday that he is also joining the Tar Heels.

Cowan, a Charlotte native, is returning to his home state to play for the school he says he grew up rooting for.

“This is truly a full circle moment,” Cowan said in a release by North Carolina. “Not only was I born into and raised by a Tar Heel family, I also took my very first recruiting visit to UNC as an eighth grader. Since then, the football program has grown a great deal, is in good hands, and is definitely headed in the right direction. I have a long-standing relationship with the staff and players that has never wavered. And, who doesn't love Coach Mack Brown? This new journey will be special and I can't wait to get to work. Not only is it a Great Day To Be A Tar Heel, but it's great to be home!”

Cowan, like Cavazos, was a four-star recruit in the class of 2020 who spent two years at Ohio State before entering the transfer portal. Also like Cavazos, he was sidelined by an injury as a true freshman and played only sparingly as a redshirt freshman last season, then entered the portal this spring after it became clear that he would remain a backup for the Buckeyes in 2022.

Cowan and Cavazos are among four former Buckeyes who have announced transfers to new schools in the past three days along with Bryson Shaw (USC) and CorMontae Hamilton (Memphis).
