Ohio State is making it cheaper to buy football season tickets in 2022.

After previously announcing in February that the cheapest season tickets would be sold for $710 per seat beginning in 2022, Ohio State announced Thursday that the price of those tickets has been reduced to $559 per seat.

As was previously announced, the cheapest seating zone – Zone 6, which consists primarily of corner seats in C deck – will not require an additional contribution to the Buckeye Club. A $1,500 contribution to the Buckeye Club, which raises money to fund athlete scholarships, was previously required to purchase any season tickets, but under the new model, ticket prices and required contributions will vary by seating zone, from the most expensive Zone 1 to the least expensive Zone 6.

Season ticket prices for Zone 5 – which includes seats in the north end zone as well as C deck seats outside the 20-yard line and will require a $100 per seat contribution to the Buckeye Club – have also been reduced from $799 to $711, while single-game ticket prices for both Zone 5 and Zone 6 have been reduced. Zone 5 single-game ticket prices will range from $51 for the Arkansas State game to $176 for the Michigan game, while Zone 6 single-game ticket prices will range from $42 for the Arkansas State game to $149 for the Michigan game.

Ticket prices for Zone 1 ($1,287 plus a $1,500 contribution per seat for season tickets), Zone 2 ($1,151 plus a $1,000 contribution per seat), Zone 3 ($1,022 plus a $500 contribution) and Zone 4 ($885 plus a $250 contribution) remain the same as previously announced.

Faculty and staff, members of the Varsity O alumni society (which is open to former Ohio State varsity athletes who were letterwinners) and recent graduates (within five years of graduation) will remain eligible to purchase season tickets at discounted rates, while student season tickets will be sold at $34 per game ($272 total for 2022) for the 10th consecutive year.

A full list of ticket prices, map of seating zones and information on how to purchase tickets can be found on Ohio State’s official website.

The move to reduce prices for some tickets comes as Ohio State nears the end of a football season in which it has struggled to fill Ohio Stadium more than in past years. While attendance for each of Ohio State’s last two home games against Purdue and Penn State has topped 100,000, attendance fell short of the six-digit threshold for three of the first four games – most notably for the second home game of the year against Tulsa, which drew a crowd of 76,540 fans, the lowest since 1971.

Season ticket sales also declined for the fourth straight year as Ohio State sold 42,373 non-student season tickets in 2021, a drop of 11,553 since Ohio State sold 53,926 season tickets in 2017.

“We are looking for more opportunities for our fans to experience Ohio State games, and lowering ticket prices is a way to accomplish that,” athletic director Gene Smith said in a statement. “We’re grateful for our fans who came back to Ohio Stadium this year to support the Buckeyes. We have an outstanding home schedule next year and we want to help as many fans as possible experience Ohio Stadium and the energy and traditions associated with Ohio State football.”

The Buckeyes are set to play eight home games in 2022, one more than usual. Ohio State will open the season with three non-conference home games against Notre Dame, Arkansas State and Toledo and play five conference home games in October and November against Rutgers, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan.
