Chase Young’s second NFL season has come to an early end.

The former Ohio State star and reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year is out for the remainder of the 2021 NFL season after suffering a torn ACL in the Washington Football Team’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Washington coach Ron Rivera confirmed Monday.

Young suffered the injury in the second quarter of Washington’s win over Tampa Bay. As he attempted to turn the corner on a pass-rush toward Tom Brady, Young’s foot got caught in the turf and his knee gave out.

Selected by Washington with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft after he won multiple national defensive player of the year awards in his final season with the Buckeyes, Young became an immediate superstar in his first season with the Football Team, in which he recorded 44 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries (one of which he returned for a touchdown) and four pass deflections.

In nine games prior to his injury this season, Young recorded 26 total tackles with three tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass deflections.
