Even in a year where college football scheduling has become much more fluid than years past, Ohio State is still scheduling non-conference games several years into the future.
According to a report by FBSchedules.com, Ohio State is scheduled to host Southern Miss in its 2024 season opener at Ohio Stadium, scheduled for Aug. 31, 2024. According to a copy of the game contract obtained by FBSchedules, Ohio State will pay Southern Miss $1.9 million to make the trip to Columbus.
The 2024 game between the Buckeyes and Golden Eagles will be the first-ever matchup between the two teams. It's set to be Ohio State's first-ever game against any of Mississippi's Football Bowl Subdivision teams, as the Buckeyes have also never played Ole Miss or Mississippi State.
Ohio State now has two non-conference games scheduled for the 2024 season, in which it's also set to make a road trip to Washington. It still has one remaining opening for a non-conference home game in 2024.
