Ryan Day says the Big Ten is discussing a possible change to the timeline for an athlete to return to play following a positive test.

During his Tuesday zoom press conference, Day said the conference is actively discussing the possibility of decreasing the current 21-day timeline for a payer to return to play after testing positive for COVID-19.

Under the current rules, players who test positive are required to wait at least 14 days from their initial diagnosis before they can go through a cardiac screening that can clear them to start working back toward competition.

However, a recent medical report states that doctors are finding so few heart abnormalities in COVID-positive athletes that cardiac screenings for those who experienced mild symptoms or no symptoms are no longer recommended.

In addition, the CDC recently decreased its recommended quarantine period for those without symptoms from 14 days to 7-10 days.

In terms of other potential Big Ten changes, Day also said he thinks the conference should take a hard look at the six-game minimum to make the Big Ten Championship Game if Ohio State can't play its sixth game this weekend.
