Ohio State will pay Toledo $1.8 million for the Rockets' trip to play the Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium on Sept. 17, 2022, according to a report by Nick Piotrowicz of the Toledo Blade.

It's not uncommon for the Buckeyes to pay more than $1 million to an opponent for a one-off non-conference home game, which they typically have two of each season. For example, Ohio State paid UNLV $1.3 million for its game at Ohio State last season. The Buckeyes paid $1.45 million to Army for its game at Ohio State last season, according to Land-Grant Holy Land's Matt Brown.

Per Piotrowicz's report, the Buckeyes will also make 5,000 tickets for the game available to Toledo, as is also standard practice.

Ohio State's 2022 meeting with Toledo will be the fourth game all-time between the Buckeyes and the Rockets. Ohio State has won all three of its previous matchups with Toledo, occurring in 1998 at Ohio Stadium (49-0), 2009 at Cleveland Browns Stadium (38-0) and 2011 at Ohio Stadium (27-22).

The Buckeyes are set to host Notre Dame in their 2022 season opener and play a to-be-determined opponent in their second game of the season before hosting Toledo in their third game of the year.
