Back in late December we were thrilled to announce master sculptor Alan Cottrill reached out to say he intended to deliver a life-sized statue of Woody Hayes to the legendary Buckeye coach's hometown even though we had not yet hit our fundraising target.

We were, and frankly still are, blown away at Mr. Cottrill's generosity and of course, also incredibly grateful for supporters like you that donated to this worthy cause.

Beginnings of Woody
Woody is coming.

Recently, Mr. Cottrill provided a status update on the beginnings of what will become a glorious life-sized statue of the one and only Wayne Woodrow Hayes which you'll see to the right.

That's not the only update however as we continue the planning phase toward what will be a meaningful dedication ceremony in conjunction with Mr. Cottrill, our friends at the Newcomerstown Historical Society and Mayor Pat Cadle.

With that, we're pleased to announce the statue unveiling will take place Saturday, August 18th at 1:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Newcomerstown Historical Society tucked in beautiful Tuscarawas County.

We invite each and every one of you to this celebration of a great patriot and the most decorated coach in the history of Ohio State Football.

Admission to the ceremony is free and we'll also be hosting a celebration immediately following.

While Mr. Cottrill was nice enough to give us what amounted to almost a $20,000 discount, we're still looking for donations we can pass along to him in addition to helping fund the logistical efforts such as statue transport, pouring a foundation and executing the ceremony itself.

Donations of any amount are welcomed however time is running out if you'd like to have your family or your business name listed on a proper plaque next to Woody's statue. If you're interested in being recognized as a part of history alongside Woody, a donation of at least $500 would need to be made before May 1st.

A summary of the recognition tiers includes:

  • $100 Donation: You earn your spot in history with your name on the list of donors on elevenwarriors.com. Donations accepted through August 1, 2018.
  • $500 Donation: Your name, family name, or business name (max 30 characters) will go on the plaque next to the Hayes statue. (Donation must be received by May 1, 2018 for inclusion.)
  • $1,000 Donation: Your name, family name, or business name (max 30 characters) will appear in a larger font a little further up the plaque next to the Hayes statue. (Donation must be received by May 1, 2018 for inclusion.)
  • $5,000 Donation: Your name, family name, or business name (max 30 characters) will appear in the largest font size near the top of the plaque next to the Hayes statue. (Donation must be received by May 1, 2018 for inclusion.)
  • $10,000 Donation: The logo of your business will appear near the top of the plaque next to the Hayes statue. (Donation must be received by May 1, 2018 for inclusion.)

Again, we'd like to thank Mr. Cottrill and all the donors who have already ponied up in support of this project. We're so grateful to have such a generous community. For those that haven't chipped in, here are 11 reasons you might consider being a part of history in celebration of Woody Hayes.
