Sheriff Cardale Jones just has a ring to it.

The former Ohio State gunslinger and 2014 national champion was sworn in as an honorary sheriff in Ottawa County last summer, but was officially honored by the sheriff's office on Friday night at a father-son banquet in Elliston, Ohio.

From the Port Clinton News Herald:

“Cardale will be helping us to make sure we have the bond with our young people,” Levorchick said. “They don’t want to hear from a 55-year-old sheriff, but they’ll listen to Cardale.”

Jones, who spoke Friday night at a banquet at Trinity United Church of Christ in Elliston, is going to be fitted for an official Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office uniform.

“When he shows up in a sheriff’s office uniform instead of a football uniform, they’re going to realize cops aren’t necessarily all bad,” Levorchick said. “What a great ambassador to have for the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.”

A Cleveland native and current member of the Los Angeles Chargers, Jones spends a good amount of his offseason back in Ohio. He was in attendance at Ohio State's Pro Day on Thursday, assisting former teammate J.T. Barrett in the throwing portion of his workout.

Jones famously returned to Ohio State for the 2015 season after leading the Buckeyes to a national title in 2014, winning consecutive games over Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon. He battled with Barrett for the starting job in 2015 before ultimately giving way to his younger counterpart. He finished his Ohio State career a perfect 10-0 as a starter.
