Before descending upon Columbus, the members of Ohio State's Supreme '18 recruiting class have one final shot at glory under the Friday night lights.
PUT THE TEAM ON HIS BACK
Ohio State four-star quarterback commit Emory Jones accounted for six touchdowns on Friday night to lead Heard County to a 41-28 win over Pepperell.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Jones hurt the Dragons with both his arm and his legs all night. He tossed a 56-yard touchdown pass to put the Braves up 7-0, and followed that up with a 7-yard scoring run on the subsequent drive.
Holding a slim 14-13 lead after a Pepperell missed extra point attempt, Jones put Heard County in the lead for good. He connected with Jaden Moreland for a 64-yard touchdown pass, then dove into the end zone from one yard out to give the Braves a 28-13 halftime lead.
The Dragons made things interesting in the third quarter, crawling back to within one score, but Jones' 49-yard scamper ended all hopes of a comeback. He iced the game on the Braves' next drive with another 7-yard touchdown run.
Heard County will now face undefeated Thomasville in the state quarterfinals.
WHATEVER HE'S ASKED
With another matchup against Union looming, Owasso and Ohio State four-star safety commit Josh Proctor recorded their first shutout of the season in a 21-0 win over Jenks on Friday night.
The Rams came up with six takeaways, including one by Proctor. He also had six carries for 37 yards and three catches for 33 yards, which opened up the offense for quarterback Will Kuehne to finish the game with 234 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Owasso and Union will meet again in the Class 6AI Finals on Dec. 1, with the Rams looking to avenge their 44-41, double-overtime loss to the Redskins back in September.
WITH EASE
St. John Bosco — looking to reach its sixth-straigh CIF Southern Section Division 1 state semifinal — made quick work of Rancho Cucamonga in Friday night's 55-28 win.
The Braves scored on the third play of the game and never looked back, thanks to starting quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, who completed 24-of-34 passes for 375 yards and five touchdowns. Defensive end Sal Spina led Bosco with five tackles and a sack, while Ohio State four-star safety commit Jaiden Woodbey added an interception, his third of the season.
The Braves will now play Centennial on Nov. 24, with a berth in the state championship on the line.
BY ANY MEANS
At 6-foot-6 and 238 pounds, Ohio State five-star tight end Jeremy Ruckert typically hovers over the competition. So in Saturday's Suffolk County Championship, William Floyd decided it would force him out of his comfort zone by double- and triple-teaming him all afternoon.
It still didn't work.
While Lindenhurst won comfortably, 35-12, Ruckert was held without a catch through most of three quarters. He moved to running back, where e gained 47 yards on six carries, and capped the game with a 1-yard touchdown.
The Bulldogs will now face Oceanside next Sunday for the Long Island Class 1 Championship.
