Supreme '18 Tracker: Jeremy Ruckert Does It All in Lindenhurst Win While Blue Smith Sets Record in Playoff Loss

Before descending upon Columbus, the members of Ohio State's Supreme '18 recruiting class have one final shot at glory under the Friday night lights.

TITLE FAVORITES?

Five Ohio State commits began their individual quests for a state title on Friday evening, but only five-star tight end Jeremy Ruckert came away victorious — three-star running back Master Teague would make it six, but he didn’t play in Blackman’s playoff victory as he recovers from ankle surgery.

The 6-foot-6, 238-pound Ruckert, meanwhile, did a little bit of everything in Lindenhurst’s 38-0 win over Commack, New York. He finished the game with five catches for 88 yards and one touchdown on offense, and added six tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble on defense.

The Bulldogs will host Connetquot, a team they beat 45-12 earlier this season, in the Suffolk semifinals this Friday.

GET HIM THE BALL

Huber Heights Wayne entered this season with the expectation it would be in Canton a month from now, playing for a state championship. Pickerington North had other ideas, however.

The Panthers outgained the Warriors 459-121 and forced five turnovers in a 41-20 win. They limited Ohio State four-star wide receiver commit L’Christian “Blue” Smith to two catches for 16 yards, though a lot of the onus should be on the Warriors offensive coordinator for only throwing the ball to him twice all evening.

In the loss, Smith set an Ohio High School Athletic Association Record with a reception in 45-consecutive games.

WASN’T ENOUGH

For the better part of three quarters of Friday night’s game against Montour, Ohio State cornerback commit Marcus Hooker put New Castle on his back.

He scored three times to give the Red Hurricanes a 28-7 second-half lead, but the Spartans stormed back to tie the game with three touchdowns in roughly four minutes. Hooker responded, driving New Castle down the field on its next drive.

The Red Hurricanes had to settle for a field goal, though, which kept the momentum with Montour. The Spartans then scored the game-winner on a 56-yard touchdown pass on the next drive.

Hooker, who continuously showed his overwhelming athletic ability this season, finished the game with 248 yards rushing and three scores.
