Amid speculation surrounding the future of quarterback commit Emory Jones, Ohio State offered a scholarship on Thursday morning to Kentucky four-star pledge Jarren Williams.

The 6-foot-2, 206-pound Williams is considered the eighth-best dual-threat quarterback and No. 205 prospect overall in the Class of 2018, as he’s thrown for 2,596 yards and 22 touchdowns — compared to only three interceptions — and rushed for 478 yard and nine touchdowns during his senior season.

He committed to the Wildcats for the second time in May, less than a month after he reopened his recruitment following a rash of offers from programs such as Alabama, Georgia, Florida and LSU. Much like Jones, the Crimson Tide have continued to work on flipping Williams from his pledge in the meantime.

In fact, they both attended Alabama's game against Ole Miss in late September, after which reports surfaced stating the Crimson Tide paid more attention to Williams than Jones.

The Buckeyes have kept tabs on Williams — who attends Central Gwinnett High in Lawrenceville, Georgia — since the summer, hoping to have a contingency plan in place in case Jones decommitted. The timing of the offer comes just days after Jones took his official visit to Ohio State, too, during which he called Ohio State "home."

And while Jones hasn't reaffirmed his commitment to the Buckeyes or reopened his recruitment, Williams' offer is surely a sign of how the staff feels about the strength of his pledge following four trips to Tuscaloosa this year.
