On pretty much every OSU board, TTUN gets special mention all through the year. Obviously this isn't unusual and if you go to any team board they are going to dedicate a lot of time to their rival. After everything that has taken place the last 4 years or so and the changes in the landscape of college football, is it time it just treat them and that game like every other game?
I honestly think so.
For one, winning or losing that game doesn't have the meaning it used to in the big picture. Beating your rival always means something internally but from a national perspective, winning or losing that game isn't as important as it used to it. Losing hurts and will always hold weight when it comes to the B1G but winning the B1G doesn't mean as much as it used to either. The team the won the NC last season didn't even play in their conferences championship game.
2nd, after the cheating the game will never be the same again. Tattgate was a big deal when it happened and for a while but perception of that "scandal" as changed dramatically over the years. What TTUN did should be looked at in the same vain as the scandal that got SMU the death penalty IMO, if not worse considering it effected the actual play on the field. Plus everyone was paying players under the table for years, SMU just got caught. TTUN was doing something that other teams wasn't doing, was frowned upon by other teams, and I do think it will be one of those things that last in the history of college football. I don't think they'll loss the stain of this one.
Lastly, we all know that cheating definitely played a part in the fact that TTUN is on the "winning" streak they are against OSU. I will also bring up the fact that if they don't duck out of the game in 2020, they go into 2021 with another loss to OSU and a new coach. We all know what happened in 2021-2023 but the last game in 2024, OSU just lost. OSU was by far the better team, TTUN wasn't cheating but OSU lost that game. TTUN didn't win it. Part of the reason OSU lost that game IMO is because of all the pressure they put on themselves. If they would have treated the game like just another game, I believe they win the game easily.
