To help you out, we've listed 22 of Ohio State’s most accomplished centers and guards with a description of their storied careers. The list only includes Buckeyes who played the majority of their snaps at center or guard.
G Edwin Hess (1924-26)
Hess was a two-time All-American and two-time All-Big Ten honoree.
G Joe Gailus (1931-33)
The two time All-American and two-time All-Big Ten honoree was captain of the 1933 team. The guard was extremely versatile and played on both sides of the line.
G Regis Monahan (1932-34)
Monahan was an All-American and All-Big Ten honoree and captain of the 1934 Buckeyes. Helped clear the path for Francis Schmidt's "razzle-dazzle" offense, was the team's kicker and was on the front of a Wheaties box in 1935.
C/G Gomer Jones (1933-35)
The All-American and All-Big Ten honoree and captain was also named the team MVP twice. Jones was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1978 and was selected by the Chicago Cardinals in the 1936 NFL Draft.
C/G Ralph Wolf (1935-37)
Wolf was an All-American and All-Big Ten honoree as well as a captain his senior season. He was also a two-time team MVP and was selected by the Detroit Lions in the 1938 NFL Draft.
G Gust Zarnas (1935-37)
All-American and All-Big Ten honoree who was selected by the Chicago Bears in the 1938 NFL Draft. Zarnas is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
G Warren Amling (1944-46)
Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1984 for being a two-time All-American and two-time All-Big Ten honoree. Amling was a captain and finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting his senior season. He is the only member of the College Football Hall of Fame to start in the NCAA's basketball Final Four. The New York Giants selected Amling in the 1946 NFL Draft.
G Jim Parker (1954-56)
Parker was a two-time All-American and two-time All-Big Ten honoree during his College Football Hall of Fame career with the Buckeyes. He was also the Outland Trophy winner and team MVP his senior year. The Colts selected Parker with the eighth overall pick of the 1957 NFL Draft and he went on to become a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
G Aurealius Thomas (1955-57)
Thomas was an All-American and All-Big Ten honoree who was selected by the Steelers in the 1957 NFL Draft. During Thomas' senior season, Woody Hayes said the following, "For consistent play on both offense and defense, there is no better guard in college football today." Thomas was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1989.
G Doug Van Horn (1963-65)
Van Horn was the team MVP and an All-American and All-Big Ten honoree his senior year. He was selected by the Lions in the 1966 NFL Draft.
C Tom DeLeone (1969-71)
DeLeone was a two-time All-Big Ten Honoree and was also Ohio State's team MVP, captain and All-American his senior season. The Cincinnati Bengals selected DeLeone in the 1972 NFL Draft.
G Ken Fritz (1976-79)
Fritz was an All-American and captain his senior year and earned All-Big Ten honors twice. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the 1980 NFL Draft.
C Steve Myers (1972-74)
Myers was a captain, All-American and All-Big Ten honoree his senior season. He was selected by the Detroit Lions in the 1975 NFL Draft.
G Joe Lukens (1979-82)
The captain is the only Ohio State guard to be honored as an All-Big Ten selection three times. Lukens was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the 1983 NFL Draft.
G Jim Lachey (1981-84)
A consensus All-American and All-Big Ten honoree in 1984, Lachey was selected by the Chargers with the 12th overall pick of the 1985 NFL Draft.
C/G Jeff Uhlenhake (1986-88)
Team MVP, captain, All-American and All-Big Ten honoree his senior season. Uhlenhake was selected by the Dolphins in the 1989 NFL Draft. He also had some screen time in the critically acclaimed Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
G Rob Murphy (1995-98)
Murphy is one of five Ohio State guards/centers to be a two-time All-American and two-time All-Big Ten honoree.
C LeCharles Bentley (1998-01)
The Rimington Trophy winner and Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year was also an All-American and All-Big Ten honoree in 2001. The New Orleans Saints selected Bentley in the 2002 NFL Draft.
C Nick Mangold (2002-05)
An All-American and All-Big Ten honoree who was selected by the New York Jets in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
C Pat Elflein (2012-16)
Elflein was a three-time All-Big Ten honoree, earning the honor twice at guard and once at center. He was also the Big Ten's Offensive Lineman of the Year, team MVP, captain and All-American in his senior season. The Minnesota Vikings selected him in the 2017 NFL Draft.
C/G Billy Price (2013-17)
The two-time All-American and two-time All-Big Ten honoree is the only center or guard in program history to be named a captain twice. Price was also the Big Ten's Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2017 and was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
G Wyatt Davis (2017-20)
Davis was named the Big Ten's Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2020. He was a two-time All-American and two-time All-Big Ten honoree. The Vikings selected Davis in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
