You may have heard it’s been Big Two and Little Eight going back to the standard definition 10-team Big Ten era. If you hadn’t heard, that’s fine too - we did the math:
PROGRAM | OUTRIGHT TITLES |
---|---|
OHIO STATE | 24 |
MICHIGAN | 18 |
EVERYONE ELSE | 38 |
These are the outright ones, but the shared ones tell the same story.
So, who’s Next™? Choices include well, everyone else. But you must pick only one:
- Illinois (8) proximity to Chicago recruiting + #Bertmentum
- Wisconsin (8) see Illinois, and now they have that Fickell guy as well as appetite to spend money (!)
- Minnesota (7) ancient power that’s always just good enough to be great
- Michigan State (5) multiple billionaire alumni, strong history/recruiting pitch
- Iowa (4) 40 years of relative stability is the envy of Little Eighthood
- Northwestern (2) massive infrastructure investment, new stadium coming, Chicago’s geographical hat
- Penn State (2) has everything in place to be a national power
- Purdue (1) cradle of quarterbacks, right between Chicago and Indy
- Indiana (1) not a serious football program, futures will hinge on the next coach in 2024
- Nebraska (0) it’s done it multiple times before, can it run it back again?
- Maryland (0) the Under Armor yin to Oregon’s Nike yang, great recruiting footprint
- Rutgers (0) the Birthplace of College Football
