In one of the other topics here a poster expressed frustration that we have not won a title in "ten years". This is true, and certainly there are seasons in there where I feel like we could (and possibly should) have won a title. This season that just ended being one of them.
That said, though, for perspective I wanted to make clear the ridiculousness of our success. Below are FBS teams that have won a title in the last 75 years, grouped by recency.
There are 131 FBS teams. Thirty teams are on this list. In other words, IT HAS BEEN MORE THAN 75 YEARS (OR NEVER) SINCE 101 TEAMS HAVE WON A TITLE. To put that another way, 77% of the teams in FBS have not won a title during the last 75 years of college football.
Folks, that is amazing.
Here are the teams that last won a title in the last five years:
Georgia
Alabama
LSU
Clemson
Here are the teams that last won a title in the last six to ten years:
Ohio State
Florida State
Here are the teams that last won a title in the last eleven to fifteen years:
Auburn
Florida
Here are the teams that last won a title in the last sixteen to twenty-five years:
Texas
USC
Miami
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Here are the teams that last won a title in the last twenty-six to fifty years:
Michigan
Nebraska
Washington
Colorado
Georgia Tech
Notre Dame
Penn State
BYU
Pittsburgh
Here are teams that last won a title in the last fifty-one to seventy-five years:
Michigan State
Arkansas
Minnesota
Ole Miss
Syracuse
Iowa
UCLA
Maryland
Folks, look at that list. We are in the most recent six teams to win a title. That is the top 4.58% of all teams in FBS.
Just providing a little perspective.....
