Some good and some bad here, certainly not extremely in depth but Bill names the safeties as the reason we lost this game. Corners while not perfect played their best game overall.
In our 4 games against teams with a pulse (PSU, Maryland, TTUN, Georgia)… pass coverage was the problem. Rush wasn’t consistent, but safety play was always over aggressive and they were out of position.
These are talented players. So, I’m concluding that this safety driven defense itself puts too much on the safeties, gambling too much on creating negative plays in the run game.
Knowles should have made better calls. If your team cannot play man well, don’t call it so often. Especially when zone was working. I’ll never understand this.
Eliano never coached these dudes up. There is a reason the position is called “safety” and we apparently don’t understand that. Too much hero ball.
McAllister—smart player but athletically limited
Hickman—more of a LB type instincts not good coverage instincts
Ransom—biggest head scratcher for being the top feee safety in his class. Sometimes great, but plays too much hero ball and gets out of position.
