Had the Big Ten had a CCG with no divisions, here's what the matchups would have looked liked dating back to 1990. Tiebreakers used: 1. head to head (including when multiple teams tie), 2. AP poll ranking at the time.
Italicized if 1st meeting of the season
Bold if OSU would have been playing. The Bucks would have been represented in a whopping 22 of 32 years. Coop's record vs TTUN would still drive us nuts, but his legacy might have improved as his teams would have had a shot at Pasadena 5 years in a row, 1992-1996 with another CCG in '98. The 2015 team (staff) would still drive everyone insane nuts as they'd have missed out. OSU may have been an even bigger thorn in PSU's side as the Lions would have had to do it again in 2005, 2008, and 2016 (as well as 1994, but I'm less confident in a different result in that one).
Ohio State - Michigan rematch occurs about every 5 years on average. Coop's infamous tie in '92 and the loaded '98 team get rematches. The biggest games of the 2000s (100th matchup and Game of the Century) are followed by re-do's. The 2018 and 2021 contests also require an encore. I get mixed feelings as I hate the idea of 'The Game' being relegated to a preliminary meeting in those years, but the advantages of an improved - almost always top 10 - matchup for the conference in its CCG are abundantly clear.
