Surprised there's not an overly self-congratulatory article already on this. So here it goes... HAPPY 100!!!!!
100 years ago today: Oberlin defeated OSU 7-6
- Big thanks to the thousands upon thousands of OSU folks that created this amazing path.
It's been 100 years... since Oberlin celebrated
Oberlin celebrated the win with multiple bonfires, Indian Hopi dances and loud bells. source
Where's the big banner celebration...
Also: the last time OSU didn't defeat an in-state foe?
- November 1st, 1924 vs. Wooster
- Amazingly, this gets almost no mention...
Yep, 97 years ago, The Buckeyes and The Fightin' Scots battled to a 7-7 tie
11W: The Fighting Scots tied the Buckeyes in Ohio Stadium, 7-7, thanks to a late fourth quarter touchdown, and would enter the history books. Technically, Oberlin is the last in-state program to defeat Ohio State (1921), but the 1924 game with Wooster was the last time Ohio State did not defeat a school from Ohio in a game of football.
Much has been made of this buildup to 100 years. I say we have one today, and one in 3 years... the only team in the way for the next 100 year anniversary: Toledo
Finally, where did all the Ohio teams go on the schedule?
After playing 5 Ohio teams in 4 years ('19-'22), there's none in the next 4 years (that's a recruiting cycle). Also, the lone far out Ohio game (BGSU) is a makeup game from 2020's cancellation.
OSU doesn't lose to MAC schools, although Tressel had his close calls... let's have more of the Ohio MAC schools.
Year | Ohio | Non-Ohio |
---|---|---|
2016 | Bowling Green | |
2017 | Army/UNLV | |
2018 | Tulane | |
2019 | Miami (and **Cincy) | |
2020 | *Bowling Green | |
2021 | Akron | |
2022 | Toledo | |
2023 | San Jose St. | |
2024 | Western Mich | |
2025 | U-Conn | |
2026 | Ball State | |
2027 | ***Bowling Green |
*cancelled (we all know why)
**alright, not sure if Cincy is 'easy game,' so they get the double asterisk
***makeup game
also... I wrote something akin to this on the forum on Monday... so, some copy paste...
