I know motivation has a ton to do with this game in a lot of people’s minds, but the reality is Ryan Day and his staff out coached Clemson’s staff by a mile and a half. We heard a little this week about how Clemson was good at stealing signals, and when they have time to read these signals they get set up in the perfect defense.
Early on in the game I was getting worried, we would run the play clock down to 12 and I’d be yelling at my TV for them to go. Then in an instant they’d be at the line and snapping the ball with about 9 on the play clock. Venables had no time to steal signs, no time to react. They were toast.
I think Clemson is going to see almost every opponent do this from now on, they’re still going to have a ton of success. After all, they recruit and develop top talent. But in big games this is a very important strategy that Clemson will have to learn to stop.
Ryan Day, once again showing how knowledgeable he is as a play caller, game planner, in mid game adjuster. Super proud of this team
