Now that we're looking into the abyss of a potentially season-destroying COVID wave in the WHAC, who do we think benefited by the season being played and who got hurt by it? Here are a few thoughts:
Justin Fields benefited. While we all knew he was the #1 or #2 QB in the country, over the winter there was a lot of chatter about Trey Lance of North Dakota State leaping ahead of him. That ain't gonna happen.
Pete Werner has benefited. He's had a really solid season.
Garrett Wilson has seen his stock really rise as has Nick Petit-Frere. Chris Olave too.
And Jeff Hafley is a stud coach even though he's gone.
But, I don't see this season having really helped anyone else. Wyatt Davis was projected as a top 15 NFL Draft pick and now he's slipped almost out of the first round. Shaun Wade hasn't improved his draft stock much either, or he at least isn't the shut-down corner that I was expecting he'd grow into. Josh Myers was seen as a late first-rounder or early second-rounder but I'm not sure that's still the case. Jonathan Cooper hasn't asserted himself as the next OSU DE star either. And a lot of undergrad DBs haven't helped themselves at all.
Thoughts?
