OSU and Texas have a lot of similarities when it comes to how their athletics fit into their perspective conferences. Both are historically successful in a wide range of sports. Both bring the largest fan base with the most revenue. Both are clearly the top dog. Pretty similar except for one thing: the current Big Ten situation would never happen to Texas. Texas knows it’s worth, knows it’s power, and it’s not afraid to use it. Just look at the latest conference realignment; the Big 12 did pretty much exactly what Texas wanted, regardless of what other schools wanted. They threw their weight around and got what they wanted.

OSU has the same capabilities. If Gene Smith and Kristina Johnson walked in and said “We’re playing fall football, and we’ll make it happen with or without you,” you can bet the current situation is different. It’s easy for Warren to tell Nebraska to screw off and keep them in line. But when your top prize, your biggest program says its playing regardless, that’s a little harder. You can’t kick them out, you need them, far more than they need you. A huge fine certainly won’t make the situation better. Then if Nebraska, Iowa, PSU, and TTUN join as reports indicated, Warren either faces splitting the conference apart or letting those teams play. 
 

Texas does whatever it wants because it knows it can. OSU could do that too but it won’t. And it’s going to cost us dearly.
