Let me preface this by saying I have only bet ON Michigan 1 time in my life and I still feel dirty from the experience.
It was 2002 and I had just dropped $1,000.00 for a pair of tickets to The Game. Having endured the Cooper years, I was extremely jaded and was fearful of another let down in The Game. The more and more I thought on it, it became evident that I would not be able to deal with a loss in that game.
So I devised an insurance policy of sorts. I thought about what I could do to help my Bucks. I have never been a big gambler because I always lose, so I thought if I bet on Michigan and lost the bet, then I would win.
The line was TOSU -51/2. So I decided to put $1,000.00 on Michigan +51/2, I figured if the Buckeyes won I wouldn't care about the $ and if they lost, the $1,000.00 would help me deal with the loss. I was willing to lose 1k, just to propel my Buckeyes to the Title game.
As you are aware, tOSU won that game 14-9, and I won on both sides of that bet, my beloved Buckeyes won a trip to the BCS title game, but failed to cover the spread, providing me with a jackpot.
