Just the mistakes alone in or near the Redzone, may have cost us, by a conservative measure 21 points, potentially even by 29 points. Penalties directly cost us 7 points. Turnovers potentially cost us 14 points.
- A fumble by Marshall in the 6 yard line. May have cost us 7 points, at the very least 3 points. (3-7 total)
- Interception may have cost 7. At the very least, 3 points. (6-14 total points)
- Illegal (Allegedly) Block by Miller cost us 7. Add a missed field onto that one too. (13-21 points)
- Kicked two field goals in the redzone. So that is a total of 8 points left on the board. (21-29 points).
- One of these possessions had a wide open Michael Thomas in the endzone.
Playing with discipline and ball control goes a long way at scoring points. I know you are going to leave points on the board and it happens every game. Indiana can sit here and calculate this too. But seriously, ours were through self destruction. We had a lot of possessions and still punted the ball 7 times. Still a lot of work to be done on that front. A lot of these issues, although repeated issues, are correctable. You cannot be 2-14 on third down. That is corrected through stronger execution, good blocking upfront, and better play calls to avoid these situations. The line has improved and did open up the lanes and playcalling is a major factor. That goes both ways with line play.
