The Ohio State offensive series show some surprising facts hidden behind the dueling quarterback controversy between Cardale Jones and JT Barrett.
A. A weak part of the offense was Braxton Miller. He fumbled twice (and recovered both) and had 4 runs for minus 2 yards, zero yards, 1 yard and a long of 8 yards, along with one "pop" pass for 3 yards. His "mildcat" performance hurt drives for both Cardale and JT.
B. Nick Vannett could not figure out where the first-down marker was on third down. Twice on third-and-3, he caught passes for 2 yards-- one yard shy of the first down.
C. Penalties on the offense were few but costly. Campbell nullified a long gain on the first play because he was in motion-- as a receiver! There were two false-start penalties, one of which was increased a play later with a substitution penalty for having 12 men on the field, and a penalty for holding on Price.
D. Ezekiel Elliott was not money in the bank. He fumbled on the second series and failed to convert on just 3rd down and 2 on the last series to close out the game.
