There seems to be many similarities between these two:
--Both were successful college players (Edge to Spurrier Heisman Winner)
--Both were average pro players (Edge to Harbaugh here)
--Both were somewhat successful college coaches before the NFL (Edge Spurrier)
--Both were decent NFL coaches before wearing out welcomes (Edge Harbaugh)
--Both went back to college with expectations through the roof
--Both have abrasive personalities and have been called arrogant pricks by some
My main point is that with all these similarities, Spurrier came in with high/rock star expectations, and even though he got some big time recruits (Clowney) and has had some good years, he has not turned the SEC on its side. With Meyer, Dantonio, and Franklin providing stiff coaching and recruiting competition, Harbaugh may have an initial impact, but like Spurrier, he may be an also ran--or he may just run back to the League.
What are some of your thoughts?
