The Buckeyes are set to host Butler in an exhibition game on Oct. 25, OSU's second exhibition game of the 2026-27 preseason.

Ohio State previously announced it will play Cincinnati in an outdoor exhibition game at the CareSource Invitational at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. The game is set for a 3 p.m. tip-off on Oct. 7.

The Buckeyes and Butler have plenty of ties, as recently retired Bulldogs head coach Thad Matta is OSU's all-time wins leader (337) and led Ohio State to five Big Ten titles and nine NCAA Tournament appearances from 2005-17. He coached at Butler in 2000-01 and then again in 2022-26

Jon Diebler, the younger brother of OSU head coach Jake Diebler and the program's all-time leader in 3-pointers (374), is an assistant coach for Butler. Jon is entering his fifth season with the Bulldogs.

Ohio State and Butler have played each other 42 times during the regular season, a matchup that dates back to 1924. The Bulldogs beat the Buckeyes, 67-66, in the PK80 event in Portland, Oregon, in 2017, the most recent matchup between the two programs.
