Look, I’m not being a homer. And I’m not predicting anything in the NCAA tournament. But anyone who’s watched a good amount of NCAA tournament basketball over the years knows upsets outside of 1 vs 16 matchups happen frequently. Ohio State will probably go in as a 10-14 seed baring a crazy deep run in the B1G tournament. So anyone they face will be the favorite. So imagine you’ve played a great to good season getting a 3-7 seed and see this as an opponent:
- Battle tested team that played in a top conference
- All 5 starters can shoot 3 pointers and one of them is Mobley
- 2 seven footers
- Would probably be seeded just as high (maybe higher) than you if they didn’t lose several games in the last 2 minutes or less.
- Great free throw shooters and don’t turn the ball over often.
- Got hot and playing their best basketball at the end of the season going into the tournaments.
- Consistent game to game improvement from roll players like Bynum and Chatman over the past several weeks.
- Led by Bruce Thornton
We’re not the matchup anyone wants to be rewarded with after playing a solid season. They’re in a no win situation because sleep on us you lose. Hell, if we’re shooting lights out from 3s we’re a really difficult out can beat almost anyone. And if they win, “Well, you were supposed too.”
