As the 2022 Ohio State Basketball team enters the off season it appears that the Transfer Portal will play a big part in next years team's success or failure. That being said over the past 4 years since the portal began in Oct of 2018 the Ohio State Buckeyes Men's Basketball team has lost several players to transfer via the portal, Starting with 2017 early entrant Musa Jallow and most notably all but one of the 2018 class have now transferred from OSU. Also the 2019 OSU Basketball Class of 4 players and Transfer Portal participant Justice Sueing are all gone with the lone exception of Sueing who was out the entire 2021-22 season with injury. Losing EJ Liddell to the NBA and 4 Star and top 50 rated players Alonzo Gaffeny and DJ Carton to the portal as well as 369th rated Ibrahima Diallo. Still with all the loses to transfers leaving OSU the portal has been far better to the Buckeyes than to the players who left. With the addition of PG's CJ Walker and Jamari Wheeler who were both instant starters and heavy contributors to successful Buckeye teams, Walker who averaged 30 min. per game and and 10pts. his Jr year and 12pts. his Sr year along with over 4 assists per game. Wheeler who averaged 31 min 7pts and 3 assists. Sueing had a solid year last year with 31 minutes played over 12pts. and 5 rebounds per game but did not participate in 2021-22 due to injury he will return to OSU in 2022-23. Really not any of the before mentioned players who chose to transfer from Ohio State have made noticeable contributions at their new locations. DJ Carton maybe the best of the bunch starting 24 of 27 games at Marquette with 13 points and nearly 4 turnovers per game after one season at Marquette and against all advice from scouts opted for the NBA but was cut and signed with the Greensboro Swarm where in 5 games scored a total of 23pts and had 13TOs. Luther Muhammed a 2 year starter for OSU opted to leave after the 2020 season and landed at Arizona State where he averaged 19min per game with 5.5pts while shooting 19% from 3pt range.
