For those of you unfamiliar with the story, a group of Columbus filmmakers created a documentary on former Ohio basketball prodigy, Estaban Weaver. Here is a link that should provide some color to both the film and his story. It's a sad story - one that you've probably heard variations of from different cities. In New York, it's Lenny Cooke and Sweet Pea Daniels. In Southern California it's Demetrius Walker. In Atlanta it's Walter George and in Chicago it's Thomas Hamilton. In Central Ohio, it's Estaban Weaver. It's the tale of other worldly hype leading to other worldly expectations which leads to a meteoric fall from grace. Many will tell you Estaban Weaver was the best to ever come through the Central Ohio prep scene. Some say the best in Ohio -- better than LeBron was.
After two wildly successful showings at The Gateway Film Center this weekend, Homage will be hosting a stream of the movie for the next few weeks. Regardless if you're familiar with the story, I highly encourage you to see it. It is incredibly well done and really captures a local Central Ohio flavor in the process.
