Look, there are some built-in excuses here.

The weather in State College on Saturday wasn’t great. It was cold, rainy, generally not ideal for hanging out in a stadium in April. The NFL Draft was also taking place just a few hours away in Pittsburgh, and Penn State opted to make its Blue-White Game more of a practice than a true scrimmage.

Spring games across the country are also trending downward in general, with some programs scaling things back or scrapping them entirely amid concerns about tampering and the transfer portal.

All of that can be true.

And this can still look… not great.

A photo from Penn State’s Blue-White Game making the rounds on Saturday showed large swaths of empty seats inside Beaver Stadium.

Not very "We Are!" of them.

For comparison, Ohio State drew an announced crowd of 42,240 for its spring game earlier this month in Columbus. Even if the true number was 70% of what was announced, that's substantially more than the 2,000 or so who made it out Saturday in State College. And don't think OSU benefited from nice weather. It was cool and wet last weekend again in Columbus.

Context definitely matters. But so does that visual from Beaver Stadium.
