Aside from Ohio State-Buffalo, which Week 1 game are you looking forward to most?

gwalther's picture

Voted other just because I couldn't decide between Georgia-Clemson or LSU-Tcu. Haha. Excited for the other games in the poll too...Heck, excited for MAC football, the AAC... Just bring on the college football!

Why not? Bring on some hot MACtion!

Wanted to say UNC-SC because it's the season opener, but I just couldn't vote for it.
I'm dying for Clemson, TCU, and UNC to beat the SEC in three high profile games right at the start, but it isn't likely. I'd lov to see the SEC meme shaken to start the year. In order of highest chance to least chance:
Va Tech (one in a million shot)

unknownmusketeer's picture

Would you be willing to give me those odds for VaTech? I bet 1 penny and if VaTech wins, you give me 1,000,000 pennies. I would take that bet in a heartbeat. If you give me your address, I can prepay my losing today.

cplunk's picture

Nah. One in a million still means there is a chance. I'm a man who likes his money, so I don't gamble cash. I'll bet you a six pack to a case though. Some mid level beer. Not sure how we pay up unless you're in th DC area.

Those are all 3 very losable games for the SEC.
Georgia loses a ton of guys on defense, Murray and Gurley are studs, but they lack an explosive play maker outside right now. With Boyd and Watkins, I can see this being a shootout with both teams hanging over 35pts. This game is a toss up IMO.
TCU will be fun to watch. I'm curious to see if Pachall can rebound. More curious to see if TCU has the lineman to play with LSU.
Bryn Renner is an excellent QB, combine that with South Carolina being sporadic in openers= good game.
Finally we are here, my favorite 3 months of the year!

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.

NW/CAL.  Two teams I definitely want to get a closer look at.

I used the same rationale. Relevance trumps.

Me too! I didn't know they were playing each other until I needed to vote. I will try to watch that game for the same reasons you posted. Know thy enemy.

Um, NC vs SC? I picked that because its the first game of the year!'s picture

Bama -Tech will set the bar.

cplunk's picture

What bar? Va Tech was 7-6 last year and middle of the pack ACC. They have six starters out with injuries or suspended. They are 1-18 against top five teams under Coach Beamer.
that isn't a quality game. I'd love for Va Tech to win, but our game against San Diego State is a stronger game.

NoVA Buckeye's picture

Virginia Tech is a mess right now IMO. Fortunately for Beamer, they can't fire him. He's untouchable down there.

For how bad VT will be this year, right?

Gotta love two top five teams playing with a shot at an SEC team getting beaten.  If you're not ready for that take your filthy hands off my rock.

Georgia/Clemson for overall best game.  NW/Cal for scouting of future game purposes.

cinserious's picture

My thoughts also. Plus both UGA and Clemson have been two of our biggest recruiting rivals the last couple years.

One day I will valiantly become a political prisoner of 11W jail.

I went with NW - CAL to see what types of teams we will face later in the season.  I will also keep an eye on GA - Clemson in hopes of seeing the SEC get knocked down a peg.

PA Buckeye's picture

I'll show my east coast bias and go for PSU-Syracuse, only because I smell an upset. But really, I'm with CentralFLBuck. I want to see two of our scarier future opponents fight it out at NW-CAL.

As some have said, UNC vs USC... First game of he year.

When you're holding a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Have to add to the MACtion. As someone who has a masters from Northern Illinois I have to root for them to beat the useless Hawkeyes and build on the Orange Bowl trip from last year. Won't be nearly as good a game as UGA:Clemson but that is ok. As long as football is back it is all good.

FSU @ Pitt. I will be in attendance and it will be my first ever FSU game. Excited for the Jameis Winston era to begin.

I'm not a scout and I'm not on OSU's football staff; I look forward to watching the best and/or most intriguing game. Two top five teams fits the bill.

I'm excited for that NC/SC game. I don't know why but I have a feeling it's going to be an exciting one.

Georgia-Clemson, or Washington-Boise State.

"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.

Bama vs VaTech.. I want to see Bama lose their first game of the season then take down Manziel so both teams have a loss.. I realize that the first part probably won't happen but a man can dream right?

In this case, no. lol

Ohio U. vs. Louisville. Would love to see an Ohio team beat a top 10 team. Tettleton is the real deal (well, real for the MAC).

I voted Clemson/Georgia for the obvious, but I can't wait to scout Cal against a potent Northwestern attack.

Don't count out UNC. SC offense is going to struggle mightily and I think UNC will capitalize.

I voted for the battle of the "Carolina"-s , I think it's going to be quite an entertaining game. I'm pulling for Carolina to win.

Purdue vs Cincinnati, could be a nice win for either team

NW-Cal. Want to see how cals young qb handles the pressure. And how their NWs offense looks. Common opponent and both have offenses that could cause some problems.

jdagrava.1's picture

I thought I would be in the minority by choosing the Northwestern game.  I just don't find SEC match-ups to be exciting this early in the season, even if they are primetime games.  The Northwestern vs. Cal game just seemed to make sense seeing that we will be playing both teams during the season.
Food for thought: There is a place next to Cal's stadium called Tightwad Hill.  It takes a bit of a hike to get there, but it gives those who make the journey an excellent view of the football field.  Plus, it's completely free.

I wonder how much higher Morrill Tower would have to be to get a view like this from the rooftop?
