The Worst Ohioan Has Been Found in Ontario

In March, Jesse Owens emerged from a field of 64 to be crowned as the greatest Ohioan. It turns out, we won't have to have a tournament to crown the worst Ohioan. That title was undoubtedly earned by an Ontario woman.

From CTV Edmonton News:

Police in Ontario, Ohio say they're looking for a woman who was captured on camera stealing a stuffed animal from a child's grave.

The child, Hayden “Tank” Cole Sheridan, died in 2007 and his parents say toys and solar night lights have been taken from the 14-month-old's gravesite ever since.

Hayden's parents first contacted police in 2012 and a hidden camera was subsequently  set up near the gravestone. While the footage showed a number of items disappear from the site, authorities were unable to capture a clear image of the suspect.

On April 19, a day before Easter, the surveillance footage clearly captured a woman taking a yellow stuffed duck from Hayden's gravestone approximately four to five hours after the family had placed the animal at the site.

According to 11Wer Brandonbauer87, the suspected lady has turned herself in and claimed there was a "dog in the area" and she "didn't want the dog to take the stuffed animal."

That's precious.

For a second, I thought it was Brady Hoke.   All kidding aside, this woman is a bad machine.

Hope this person is publically humiliated by the judge. How are people like this even made?

They already have the lady. She turned herself in. She claims that there was a dog in the area and she didn't want the dog to take the stuffed animal. Of all the excuses, that's a pretty pathetic one. And it's not like any excuse justifies it. My mom works for the mansfield tv/radio station. She gave me the scoop last night.

So I hope she gets a "creative sentence" from the judge. Maybe make her do an annual clean-up of that cemetery or decorate the graves every Easter. Violate your conditions, go to jail for 6 months.

Because that's an effective use of taxpayers' dollars, jailing a woman for stealing stuffed animals from a child's grave.

Yes. And when she's caught and punished for her crimes, maybe it will be potent enough to make people think twice over doing something so absurd. Then the taxpayers don't have to pay for more hidden surveillance and the ongoing manpower behind it. Better yet, less people are out doing this and other complete jackassery. Sounds like a win win to me.

And your solution is? Mine is to place her in confinement and provide free labor that would otherwise cost the state tax dollars to perform. Crime can not go unpunished. Im sure she doesn't limit herself to stealing from a gravesite. Lessons need to be learned here.

How about you just fine her? Placing someone in jail, at the taxpayers' expense, for stealing a stuffed animal is idiotic.

-6 HS
USMC11917's picture

Ok, and she gets the money from where? She's already stealing stuffed animals. We just forgive her when she can't pay? Many choose to do time instead of paying fines. Who knows what she is capable of but I doubt money holds great importance in her life or she might be better established and prepared to provide for herself. Yes, I presume a lot here. Hard time and labor are great motivators. It teaches a good work ethic or it makes one miserable and strive to avoid such punishment again. Win, win.

So your assumption that she cannot pay a fine is based on what exactly, that she's stealing stuffed animals? There's no reason to jail someone for stealing a fucking stuffed bunny/duck/whatever. That's just moronic.

Your "tone" is insulting. Here I thought we were having a conversation. Regardless of how minor the offense is, I am sure that had this been your token toward your fallen offspring that you might want more justice than a slap on the wrist fine.

Osurrt's picture

William......not out of the gate. Hence the comment and a creative sentence. This was not a one time occurence, it has been happening for over two years. But that being said, think of the flip side if someone was stealing or vandalizing the grave of one of your family members.

Should this woman be found guilty, along with whatever fines/restitution are applied I'd have her visit (under supervision of course) this child's grave each Easter as a reminder of just how stupid/insensitive/disrespectful her act was.

Ny daily news, and other sites as well, have the short video of her taking it. It can easily be proven she wasn't  protecting it from a stray dog. She was looking around as a guilty person stealing from a childs grave.

she is just horrible!

I think Ontario PD may have acted TOO swiftly on this case, as it is now getting national attention. She was charged with misdemeanor theft. I don't believe there's a lot of room for creative punishment in that one.

Thousands of comments came in on the video showing a woman leaving the gravesite with a stuffed duck that had been placed there just hours before by the toddler's parents. Some of the posts identified the woman as Frieda Kay Shade, 54, Ontario police Detective Jon Sigler said.

Believe it or not this is not uncommon. We've have had wreaths, grave blankets, rosaries, pumpkins, flowers, flowers and more flowers stolen from our daughter's grave.

I've come to the conclusion that there are lowlifes who cruise cemeteries on and just after holidays for this purpose only.

May they all rot in Hell.

This stuff happens more than you know. I was at a cemetery visiting my dad's gravesite when I saw a family of people stealing stuff off of the graves. They were having their grade school aged kids running the stuff back and forth to the car. There is a whole industry of thief's out there that do this stuff. They mostly take the plastic stuff and resell it. Despicable.

The title is a little misleading; I seriously thought there was an Ohioan tearing it up in Canada.

Hopefully they get her.

I always did wonder what happens to that stuff at grave sites after it sets for so long.

And then I told her...i'm no weatherman, but tonight's forecast is calling for several inches!
