Ohio State Fan Living in Michigan Leaves No Doubts to His Allegiance with Vanity License Plates

Earlier in the week, we told you about an Ohio State fan who took matters into their own hands when they received a rental car with Michigan plates.

The "We're Buckeyes!" disclaimer drew quite the response, including one from Tim, a native Ohioan who now lives less than an hour away from Ann Arbor. Despite owning two cars with Michigan plates, Tim represents the good guys with vanity plates that read "OSUFANS" and "BUCKEYES."

“The reaction varies here from people telling us Ohio State is No. 1 with their middle fingers, to people giving us the thumbs down. It's really funny when you see another Buckeye speed up to catch us and yell, 'O-H!', Tim told Eleven Warriors. “A lot of people take pictures as we are driving and many people want to get their pictures taken next to them.”

We salute you, Tim. You are the King of the North.

I bet those colors aren't a coincidence either.

Hope those are bulletproof, especially in Detroit.

In Detroit, no one cares about college sports. It's the suburban area that the hillbilly fans of UofM get violent. But most UofM fans I have encountered under the pretense that I'm a Buckeye fan in foreign land, have been nice.

I applaud his dedication, but it just seems to me that they are asking for trouble in terms of random vandalism.  Of course they could own a body shop and he has his ttun employees buff out the key marks each week too.

Shit, I get harassed for an alumni sticker on my car in Florida.  In *ichigan though, haha, I bet they get a lot of reactions.  Good for them, GO BUCKS.

What about the fellow 11W member and his plate that reads IH8UOFM. I believe it's his screen name too

And then I told her...i'm no weatherman, but tonight's forecast is calling for several inches!

You rang?

Yeah, its pretty wild. My wife wants no part of an OSU-themed plate even though I have converted her ( a Native michigan chick-she even goes as far as posting snide comments on her friends walls come the final Saturday of November). I went into the secretary of state with a handful of combinations in case I got a slap-happy UM fan for my teller. Funny thing is, IH8UOFM was actually my 2nd choice, number one was URBNMYR. A few other ones I had written down were BRAXTON, TRESSEL, 10YRWAR, HOKEFAT. I spent hours searching available plates on here http://services.sos.state.mi.us/plates/

You realize, that walking into the Secretary of State's office in the Lansing Supercenter, your chances of running into somebody who H8's "UOFM" is pretty damned good.

We're used to the H8.  Everybody H8's us.  In Columbus, H8ing us is the Prime Directive.  In Madison, they have a crazy H8 for us.  In East Lansing, H8ing us is a way of life.  In Champaign-Urbana, Evanston, Bloomington, Minneapolis, Iowa City and West Lafayette we'd be the biggest ticket of the season.  H8.  I think if you asked anybody in western Pennsylvania about their state university they'd say the same, although I don't even like thinking about western Pennsylvania apart from our recruits.  I H8 the idea that they are in our league.

I'm a native of that state up north (but got to the promise land as fast as I could) yet still sported MI license plates while I was living right off campus, now I don't know if it was a coincidence (bc I certainly wasn't the only one) but in 4 years I had my car broken into 5 times-twice the perpetrator folded the plate up like a burrito. Also had a car stolen too. Apparently Buckeye decals aren't as reliable as a good security system.

Just... Go Bucks.

I'm thinking after the first burrito, I'm changing the registration to Ohio.

Come on.  Tim lives among TSUN folks.  They are intellectuals, reasonable, and effeminate souls.  Vandalism?  Impossible for those from gentle and harmless Ann Arbor.

I lived in the TTUN for 6 years. I had a flagpole out front of my home and flew the Scarlet and Gray every day. I had my tires slashed and my grill destroyed, among things stolen out of my shed and off of my deck. I installed security cameras and caught a neighbor slashing my tires and stealing a propane tank two days after the installation. SInce he was out on probation for many different issues, he ended up going back to jail. Talk about karma. I used to get my car keyed just for having an OSU sticker in my window. I even had a guy start crap with me in Wal-Mart (imagine that) just because of my MNC shirt I was wearing. I'm glad I'm back in Columbus.

Yikes. I actually have a 3x5 OSU flag coming in the mail to fly in front of my house, as well as a garden flag. Maybe a CCTV system is just what the doctor ordered...

Or, just getting to know your neighbors might work. (start by talking about something other than football) Some people don't like to fraternize with their neighbors, but I lived in a neighborhood in N. Toledo where we had block parties and everybody got to know everybody, and there was very little crime.

IF I lived in TSUN, and I thank God I don't, I would fly an "O" flag, and continue with my Ohio State license plate framed car.

I have to give a standing ovation to the owners of these cars.

Most of my neighbors are too old to care about College sports, but the ones that do care are MSU fans/grads and are completely cordial. I even told a few of them that I am an MSU fan 360-some days out of the year.

BucksfanXC's picture

I had Buckeye license plate frame around my MI license plate (it was cheaper and the money went to an OSU retailer instead of the State DMV) all through high school just outside of Ann Arbor. Got spit on a lot, but mostly in places like outside factory parking lots and in high school by high school kids. In downtown Ann Arbor, you get looks and comments, but nothing violent or nasty.

After nearly 3 years, I have yet to encounter any vandalism to my car. I did notice what looks like someone attempted to remove my Block-O from my rear window (which is almost impossible) and they gave up after chipping off a small piece of it. I let my younger brother use my vehicle for his road test when he got his driver's license and the instructor was less than thrilled with it.

He's spot on about people speeding to catch up to you and shouting "O-H!" and I get "GO BUCKS!" alot, and likewise, the picture taking is a daily occurrence but I have a theory that you probably didnt get a vanity plate like that unless you are willing to participate vocally in the biggest rivalry in the history of organized sports.

+2 HS
BucksfanXC's picture

That's what I've found. I became a bigger fan of OSU after I moved up here because I had to to survive. If you are just a casual fan and people around here find out, they are gonna be vocal at least, so you have to hold your own.
