Ohio State’s Mason Jobst is Big Ten Hockey’s Third Star of the Week. The freshman forward exploded for seven points (2-5--7) against the Wolverines. He kicked off the scoring in Friday’s contest and contributed three assists. Jobst also starred in the faceoff circle were he won 20 of his 30 match ups.

Perhaps the most crucial play in which he factored involved both an assist and a faceoff victory. The rookie won the last second, offensive zone draw which led to Anthony Greco’s game tying goal. The score forced overtime and eventually led to a shootout which Ohio State won.

Jobst added another goal and two more assists in Sunday’s tilt for seven total points in the series. The Buckeye rookie has now picked up at least one point in six consecutive games. He ranks third on the team in overall points (5-14--19), one back of co-leaders Nick Schilkey and Dave Gust.

The Speedway, Indiana native is tied for ninth nationally in freshman scoring. He is one of just seven rookies presently averaging 1.00+ points per game. Since the holiday break, he is accumulating points at an astounding (though probably unsustainable) 2.40 per game rate.

You can see Jobst and the rest of the hockey Bucks in action this weekend as they host No. 14 Penn State. Games are slated for this Friday and Saturday. Both are 7pm starts.
