Are you describing the poster or Omar?

I thought he was describing Brutus himself

EDIT:

And now having read further through the comments, I understand why I'm an idiot.  I am one of the ignorant few here when it comes to The Wire, so I totally missed his reference.

I'd count out the 1985 Bears if they were playing the Buckeyes on Saturday. Ditka or not.

I was wondering the same thing - that was such a great touch last year.

If it helps, I've only had cable for like 3 years of my life. I'm assuming it's a cable show.

If you have Amazon Prime you can stream every episode for free and should start doing do so immediately.

I started watching it on HBOGO, but in the last decade I have become 4:3 aspect ration intolerant.

It's one of the top 5 shows of the last 20 years, i'd recommend finding a way to watch it.

+3 HS
Squirrel Master's picture

What are you talking about, the top 5 shows of the last 20 years are these;

1. Keeping up with the Kardashians

2. Hunny Boo Boo

3. Cougartown

4. Two Broke Girls

5. Hunny Boo Boo (so good, it ranks twice!)

(but seriously Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Dexter, Sopranos, GOT, 24 are pretty tough to compare too. Plus the X-files and Seinfeld was still on 20 years ago.)

When you come across a work of literature in any medium that is highly recommended by many cool and smart people, the proper response is:

"Hmm...The Wire, you say?  I'll look into it."

We learn nothing and we don't grow if we simply say we haven't heard of it.  Or if we think it must be dumb because the work is more than a decade old.  One of the great joys of life is becoming part of the cultural conversations that have been taking place for thousands of years.  Never read the Epic of Gilgamesh?  That's okay...you can always look into it.  A little spotty on Shakespeare's stuff?  That stuff is free on the Internet, too.  These works have shaped our culture for a very long time, just as The Wire has shaped dramas that followed.  Understanding the past (in this case, the VERY recent past) helps us understand and enjoy the present.

I guess the most important thing to remember is that important and interesting things happened before we were born.  A lot of Buckeye football happened before I was born.  If someone mentions the Snow Bowl, should we wrinkle our noses and reply, "That happened before I was born.  Who cares?"  Of course not.  We should be curious and want to learn more.

Archie Griffin won his Heismans before I was born...should I assume he's not worth my time because of this?

Disparage Cougar Town with your sarcasm font? You'd better be ready to drop the gloves.

Calgarybuck's picture

24 got pretty lame after the 5th season...6-8 watered it out of my top 5.  Same with Dexter after season 4.  The Walking dead Season 2 was impossible to watch! The wire was perfect throughout except for the first couple episodes it took before Kima got shot, then it took off.

Am I the only one that thought "That's what she said" when they read this?

OfficerRabbit's picture

1. The Sopranos

2. Game of Thrones

3. Breaking Bad

4. Deadwood (waaaay too short)

5. Ray Donovan

6 Boardwalk Empire

7. Walking Dead

I can keep going, I've honestly never seen an episode of "The Wire". Where would you rank it against my theoretical favorites list?

741's picture

The Wire: #1. Breaking Bad: #2. True Detective (Season 1): #3.

I_Run_The_Dave's picture

My only gripe with this poster is that Brutus's shadow is inconsistent with the angle of the light.  He seems to be standing directly under, which would merit a round shadow (from his head) directly under.  Yet the two shadows are both off -- on his face, the shadow looks consistent with a light slightly to his front, while the shadow on his feet suggest that the light is behind him.

Other than that, great work, as usual.

I agree that might be the funniest, smartest thing I've read.  Maybe folks don't get the reference?  (Omar broke his ankles (or leg) jumping out a window in the wire.)

The first time I watched the wire I didn't care much for season 2.  The Frank Sobotka character grows on you though.

OSUMyke's picture

All I want to say is we have waited 9 month for Ohio State football and the season Opener is on a channel that most people don't have because it's on a larger package. This is BS how in the Hell is it not on a normal channel in Columbus G*d Dam* it. They did this with the BTN years ago now this I am sick of the TV schedule.

That's so sweet. The pregame posters from 11w are are so sweet. Good luck on your season tOSU It really sucks about Braxton not just for the team but the B10 guy is a stud, but you guys are still solid all across. Like Shark teeth just replenish guy after guy. I got EzE as my back this year in CF fantasy I think he's gonna be huge this year for you. See you when the snow is flying & you all know what that means.

After watching youtube clips of The Wire ( I never watched it until today) the poster makes significant more sense now.

When Omar comes a whistling you best be missing.

That is unless you are a little kid and you cap Omar at a convenience store (may be to late for a spoiler alert)

Now that I am up to speed on the poster reference it is safe to say that is seriously bad ass.

Print the t-shirts now!

Also what are the odds Meechy already has this hanging on his locker?
