When three-star defensive end Darius Slade signed a National Letter of Intent with Ohio State on signing day, it caught many by surprise. Slade was committed to Michigan State, after all, and he hadn't even visited Ohio State's campus.

Slade acknowledged as much, admitting it was "weird" but said he always wanted to play for Larry Johnson, who accepted a position on Ohio State's defensive staff just a week before signing day.

Today, Slade is finally on campus and based on his tweets, he's going to enjoy his new home.

I take it the Nike Pro Combats are the main uniform now for our recruits. I hope we still rock our traditional uniforms in games though. Slade Welcome to BuckeyeNation

I noticed that he is wearing the regular jersey but is holding the new "Chrome" helmet.

Going to do this on every post that has to with Darius Slade. And that's just the way it's going to be.

Still a weird story to me, Urban visits him, he decommits, he commits to MSU, then signs with OSU sight unseen. Recruiting be cray cray.

This kid is underrated.  I have a feeling he is going to battle for some pt maybe not as a true freshman but he will be in the mix and has the frame to be a freak rush defensive end

Hope this feeling lasts the rest of his life.

I was in town this week and stayed at the Blackwell. When I woke up this morning, I saw Slade meeting with Coach Coombs in the lobby. I was wondering why it was Coombs he was meeting with. Wasn't LJ Sr. his primary recruiter?

EASY ANSWER - Coach Coombs was showing Slade the technique he uses when he plants flags across the nation.

Looking like we should start to expect a move to the new age of jerseys with more "alternates" to come. I love our traditional look but I don't hate the white jerseys they wore against TTUN. Kinda want to see them wear it with the grey pants, white socks, etc. Also, I like the chrome helmets but I want to see them come out with another helmet maybe with the same idea but just regular grey or flat/matte colors. I'm not big on chrome helmets every game, or these jerseys for that matter but if the players like them and it attracts recruits among other things, so be it.

Jason - quick question for you............

You mentioned that Slade always wanted to play for Coach Johnson - did he have PSU on his short list?

Whoa Nellie's picture

Think I read that he has a cousin who was a stud at PSU, and didn't want to go there, rather wanted to make his own name for himself.  That was in spite of wanting to play for LJ.  That made the flip from MSU much easier when LJ came to the Buckeyes.

Edit:  the cousin is Jared Odrick
