Video: Ohio State Basketball Traditions Will Have You Amped for March

By Jason Priestas on February 21, 2014 at 6:45p

Russel Hoeflich, who was last seen bringing us an amazing Ohio State football Nike presentation video, is back at it again, with this cut featuring the rich history of the Ohio State men's basketball program.

With appearances from Bob Knight, Evan Turner, Jim Jackson, Michael Redd and other former Buckeye greats, it may not have you ready to run through a wall like a football hype video, but if you find yourself in your driveway attempting windmill dunks, you'll know why.

If only we could get another team to stand alone on top at the end of the season to join Lucas and co.

Columbus to Pasadena: 35 hours.  "We're on a road trip through the desert looking for strippers and cocaine... and Rose Bowl wins!"

Think they are going with the established program idea, instead of the underdog that upset goliath.

25 NCAA tourney appearances and 10 Final Fours... 40% Not Bad!

That stood out to me as well, even if I am not so sure of the numbers as I think they are 11 for 28, which is even better!!  (I get that we vacated the '99 appearance, but it still happened) Used to be a much different tourney, but you still had to get there!!

ONE Not Done!

Great video and part of The Schott pre-game. I never grow tired of the early 60's Bucks and Gus Johnson calling the Ron Lewis 3.

As someone who has played basketball all my life this video is even better then the football one. (Had i played football my opinion would probably differ but I love some good OSU bball highlights cause I know that sport inside out compared to football)

Absolutely fantastic.  Can't help but get a little misty with pride every time I see one of these types of videos for OSU.

Good, not quite the football one... I get chills every single time when they play the football traditions video before the home games

Needs a better Sully appearance.

Video needs to explode off the screen after Kellogg speaks towards the end...highlights, music, dunks, no-looks, buzzer beaters, Thad going ape, that video is too good to drift off softly like it does.  End with a BANG!

I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.

Needs more Jerry Lucas in my opinion.  I was not alive when he played but did have the chance to meet him and hear him speak and he is probably the most intelligent person I've ever met.  I was hoping to hear old glory stories about Buckeye basketball during his speech but he shied away from that and spent an hour talking about mnemonic devices and memory.  I loved how he said he never bothered boxing out for rebounds because he knew geometry so well it wasn't necessary he just went straight for where he knew the ball was going, if I remember the story right Fred Taylor was on his case until Lucas proved he was right.  He sells these memory devices online (I can't remember the name of them) but it is just fascinating what he is able to do (give him 50 numbers and he can repeat them all back to you no problem, or something like that).  That is the consummate Buckeye in my opinion, high character, ridiculously smart and not pigeon holed to his days on the court, always moving forward.  He was Aaron Craft before Aaron Craft was born (Craft is really great too).  I think all Buckeye fans should take some time to appreciate what Lucas did and is doing, what my dad told me about him is what I'll probably tell my kids about Craft (but he has some giant shoes to fill, literally and figuratively)

They have been using this video since B1G play began and I like it.  I wish they'd fix the number of B1G titles though, we have 5 B1GT titles too. We should also count the 2 regular season "vacated" ones.  And I count the "vacated" Final Four too, so that number is 11.  We have to redact it for our official media guides but we can still reference them in videos like this.

And that second title is way overdue, it is only a matter of time before it comes.
