Twitter Thinks Aaron Craft Has Been Here Since the 1980s

By DJ Byrnes on February 8, 2014 at 1:21p

Aaron Craft has been here since the Reagan Administration, let the Haters tell it.

If only Bruce Pearl's NCAA bylaws-violating BBQ hadn't been busted by the Fuzz, Aaron Craft may have never attended Ohio State. Yet, Bruce's career went up in smoke and the Liberty Benton Point Guard made the hajj south on US Route 23

Since arriving in Columbus, he's been the apple of your girl's eye and has infuriated opponents with his fundamentally-based defense and other antics. He's also the straw that stirs Ohio State's drink.

Apparently though, it's been a hard four years for the Aaron Craft haters:

Aaron Craft is in action tonight as the men's basketball team hosts Purdue at 6:00 p.m. on BTN. Kyle has your preview over here

It honestly kinda feels like they shouldn't have a basketball team next year.

He hasn't been here long enough IMO. I love having a player opposing fans hate.

Love me some Aaron Craft, if only he could play another 4.

Just win!

His freshman year (along with Sullinger) was the first year I really started getting into the OSU basketball team - it'll be weird to not have him or anyone else from that squad on the court anymore...

If they think Craft has been in Columbus forever I wonder how long they think Lighty was around

kevdale86's picture

I don't think there was the same sort of disdain for Lighty. Craft is the type of player opposing fans hate....unless he was on their team. Then they would LOVE him as we do.

Actually, I am one Ohio State fan who doesn't like Craft. I think my dislike for him comes from the way all you guys swoon over him. Reminds of the way fans of Tim Tebow act. Craft is a below average player  who plays good defense and is an offensive liability on the court. I don't really see the difference between him and Scott, but I don't see you guys giving Scott the same love.

What are you talking about?  The dude has the second highest field goal percentage on the team (behind Williams) for guys with any amount of playing time.  Assists, effort, etc.  I also like Scott.  You need guys like that.

UrbzRenewal's picture

I think he may have meant as far as guard-oriented offense goes (any shot except under the rim). At least he seems to know his shot is under the rim.

Well, you know what they used to say in the 80s...

Bucksfan, I like when you have a new comment on a page, because it looks like you changed your Icon and even marked it as such.

Even David Lighty thinks Craft has been here forever

I remember the first time I saw Craft, it was the exhibition game his freshman year, and he was diving on the floor for loose balls in a game we were up by 40.  I said at the time fans from other B1G teams are gonna hate this kid for 4 years.  I didn't know that hate would go national.  But it's quite amusing.

Pretty sure my girlfriend loves Craft more than she loves me...

I dunno, it kind of feels like Jordan Morgan and Keith Appling have been around longer. Perception is a weird thing.

Jordan hulls is finally gone this year. I swear he played for Knight, Davis, Sampson, and Crean

When I think of tenured athletes, juice Williams always tops my list. I swear he played at Illinois for a decade.

Too bad you can't go to med school and play basketball.

Look closely, because the closer you think you are, the less you will actually see.

I honestly think the basketball team will be hurting worse than people think next year. A lot of people only look at points being lost from a graduate/early pro. His defense is extroidinary, his leadership and toughness is one of a kind.

I'm not too worried about next years Ohio State team, should be much better than this years as long as Shannon Scott plays up to his potential. I'm mainly worried about the year after next year when Scott graduates and Ohio State is most likely starting true freshman PG AJ Harris.

I've spent time in the South, I don't care what anybody says they don't have the passion for football that us Ohioans have.

BuckeyeRealist13's picture

That is true, and unless AJ Harris adapts quickly to the college game, I believe Russel will have to move over to PG, at least until Harris earns Matta's trust. That may no be until his SO year though.

What's worse is that it seems like 4 years since Sully was here and 10 since the Thad  5.

Next year is gonna be tough for me. She doesn't complain about watching games because she loves watching him. Come to think of it... Maybe it's good for me he's done after this year...

Only guy from another team where I thought he had been there forever was Juice Williams on the Illinois football team. God that guy was there forever.... Anyways next year it's gonna be tough not seeing those rosy cheeks diving all over the floor

Who was that dude at Iowa like 5 years ago? Looked like Shaggy short Larry Bird I still swear he was there for a decade.

osubuckeye4life's picture

Chris Winkie thinks Aaron Craft has been at tOSU forever.

BuckToAsT's picture

Since we can't get 4 more years, I say we retire his number next year and place a bronze statue of him in opponent's locker room.  His defensive disruption will live on!

I think Craft being at Ohio State for several years was one of the reasons Matta took the job to be honest.  It's nice coming in with an established piece to build around for the next decade.

skid21's picture

Except this is Matta's 10th season at OSU and Craft's 4th. That would have made Craft in 6th or 7th grade when Matta accepted the OSU job.

Ohiostater I found that funny but if you don't use the sarcasm font the subtle gets by some people.   No offense Skid

Oh, now I get it. You're right that went right over my head. I was thinking more along the lines of Oden and Conley who truly did impact the foundation years after they left.

Dan Dakich is the man. I enjoy his broadcasts of our games.

Bourbon Meyer's picture

The one thing I don't like about Dakich is he once said during a broadcast he tries not to look at Thad Matta. What the hell did that mean?

Who doesn't like gazing upon screaming, sweaty, purple faced men?

EvanstonBuckeye's picture

Thank you. I know he can get fixated on a specific point sometimes, but I think Dakich is really one of the few fearless guys as far as telling it like it is. Did you watch UM-Iowa? Damn he was calling out Glenn Robinson III, making several references to him wanting to be a first-rounder, but not playing like it.

Phoenix824's picture

In watching I believe the TTUN Iowa game the other day and there was this Iowa kid named Aaron something that had a steal and Dakich accidently called him Aaron Craft  said what a difference make he was then corrected himself.    Got the love the Bromance Dakich has for Craft.

I'm kind of upset he's not going to be on the team next year, hopefully he gets his shot in the NBA. I didn't start following the basketball team until 2008, so I remember watching his film thinking he was going to be a good one. Man, I wish that 2010-2011 team could come back and play the rest of the season for us. Lighty, Buford, Diebler, Lauderdale, Sullinger, Craft, Thomas. Ridiculous talent.

BuckeyeFreak4844's picture

Craft will do fine any place he ends up, if he wants the NBA thats cool but he might as well get a jump start to being Dr. Craft the world needs more of those and less NBA.  For real though how long was brian cardinal at purdue? 10 years.

I'd really like to look up in the rafters one of these days and see a scarlet #4 up there. Gonna miss watching him torment people.

Wasn't Acie Earl at Iowa for like 10 tears?

He is like Scott Skiles in many ways. He just passed Skiles on the B1G career assists list - it seemed like that dude was at MSU for at least 8 years. Except, of course, that Craft is better - classier, smarter, and more successful.

The only thing that's new in the world is the history that we have forgotten.

tennbuckeye19's picture

Funny. This is the way I feel about every running back that has ever played at Wisconsin. I mean, how many freakin' years did guys like Ron Dayne play there?
