Ross now write for Buckeye Scoop, but he's a familiar voice around these parts.  His analysis of our offensive woes/successes is a great balance to Kyle's defensive analysis today.

One thing he points out is that both Fields & Day were a bit stubborn in their own ways in trying to force deep/downfield passes when the underneath/intermediate were open due to Indiana's blitzing.  This is something many of us pointed out during & after the game. It's correctable:

Yet Fields too frequently waited on deep routes attempting to push the football downfield instead of taking underneath throws in the face of Indiana’s blitzes. For instance, on the triple inside fire zone diagramed above, Fields on several occasions passed up Wilson on an open curl route.

And in the second half, Day’s general approach of seeking to push the football downfield on play action in second and medium situations backfired on several occasions, resulting in sacks that short circuited drives. Although on one such play action sack Fields ate a throw that would have been a touchdown to Olave on a post had he thrown it, calling these long developing routes played in Indiana’s blitz-heavy strategy—rather than taking the run and intermediate throws that were available all game.
